Abstract

Limited awareness of the relationship between menstrual cycle-related hormonal changes and oral health remains a concern among young women, particularly in developing settings. Hence, this study assessed knowledge, beliefs and awareness regarding menstrual cycle and its correlation with oral health among women aged 18-30 years attending a government medical college. A total of 400 participants completed a validated questionnaire and underwent clinical examination using Gingival Index and Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified. Although general menstrual knowledge was adequate in 67.5% of participants, only 18.8% demonstrated awareness of its impact on oral health, with higher gingival inflammation observed in those with poor awareness and irregular cycles. Significant knowledge gaps highlight the need for targeted educational interventions integrating menstrual and oral health promotion.
