Abstract |
Blunt thoracoabdominal trauma is a major emergency condition requiring rapid and accurate diagnosis for effective surgical management. Although computed tomography scan is considered the gold standard, ultrasound imaging modalities are commonly used in emergency settings because they are rapid and easily available. Therefore, it is of interest to compare the ultrasound imaging modalities with computed tomography scan findings and evaluate their application in the surgical management of blunt thoracoabdominal trauma victims. Data shows the evaluated a combined imaging approach using E-FAST, repeated E-FAST, delayed ultrasonography and CT in trauma patients at a tertiary care center. Initial E-FAST showed high sensitivity, while repeated and delayed ultrasound improved specificity and reduced dependence on CT in selected cases. Thus, structured ultrasound-based pathway can support timely triage and surgical decision-making, especially where CT access is limited. |
