Abstract

Vitamin D deficiency is a common and potentially modifiable risk factor for impaired balance and falls in older adults. Hence ninety community-dwelling adults aged ≥65 years were categorized according to serum 25(OH) D levels and assessed using the Berg Balance Scale, Timed Up and Go test and Single-Leg Stance test. Participants with sufficient vitamin D levels showed significantly better balance performance than those with deficiency or insufficiency (p<0.001). Serum 25(OH)D levels demonstrated a strong positive correlation with balance outcomes (r=0.61, p<0.001), while fall risk was highest among vitamin D-deficient individuals. Thus, data shows the maintaining adequate vitamin D status may improve balance and support fall-prevention strategies in elderly adults.
