Abstract |
The hippocampal microvasculature plays a central role in several neurological disorders, including vascular dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and cerebral infarction. Advances in imaging, combined with artificial intelligence, have driven a shift from two-dimensional analysis to three-dimensional volumetric reconstruction of the hippocampal vascular architecture. Therefore, it is of interest to examine the current computational methods for reconstructing the complex microvascular network of the hippocampus. Current 2D imaging techniques are unable to accurately map the complex microvasculature of the hippocampus, thus hiding important biomarkers for vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The knowledge will be essential for management of neurovascular pathology including the dementia. Thus, data shows the linking microvascular anatomy to automated classification for the identification of novel therapeutic targets.
