Abstract

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) affects up to 14% of pregnancies and increases maternal and neonatal complications. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate the structured lifestyle modification and dietary intervention among 120 high-risk pregnant women randomized into intervention and control groups. The intervention group showed a significantly lower GDM incidence than controls (13.3% vs. 28.3%; p=0.04). Significant improvements were observed in fasting and postprandial glucose, HbA1c, insulin resistance and gestational weight gain. Thus, data shows the intervention also reduced macrosomia, improved neonatal APGAR scores and supported better postpartum glycemic outcomes, supporting its integration into routine antenatal care.
