Abstract |
Pelvic organ prolapses (POP) frequently coexists with overactive bladder (OAB), yet the clinical determinants of symptom persistence after prolapse surgery remain unclear. This cross-sectional observational study evaluated 35 women with POP and OAB using clinical examination, urodynamic testing and OAB-8 scores before and six weeks after surgical correction. The mean OAB-8 score significantly decreased from 23.03 to 12.51 following surgery (p<0.0001), demonstrating substantial improvement in urinary symptoms, while Stage III POP was the most common presentation (82.86%). No significant differences in OAB improvement were observed among surgical techniques, although higher pre-operative OAB-8 scores were associated with persistent post-operative symptoms. Thus, data shows that surgical correction of POP effectively alleviates OAB symptoms and identifies pre-operative symptom severity as a potential predictor for post-operative outcomes. |
