Abstract

Various procedures are practiced to treat patients with hemorrhoids. Therefore, it is of interest to compare the complications arising during and after the procedure between stapler hemorrhoidopexy and suture hemorrhoidectomy to facilitate evidence based clinical practice. Various parameters like duration of the operation (in minutes), hospital stay, resume their normal work, analgesics requirements, complications during surgery like haematoma and bleeding and complications after the surgery like pain and urinary retention were observed amid both groups. Complications like haematoma and bleeding was more in group B than group A but post procedural complications like pain and urinary retention were higher in staple procedure (group A) clinically with a P-value of 0.822 and 0.896 respectively (not significant). Thus, data shows that management of grade II and grade III hemorrhoids via stapled procedure is costlier but it offers superior outcomes with lesser intra and post-procedural complications.
