Abstract |
Premature coronary artery disease (CAD) in young Indian adults has major clinical relevance, but angiographic data from Eastern India remain limited. This cross-sectional observational study included 270 consecutive adults aged 18-40 years who underwent coronary angiography for acute coronary syndrome or objective myocardial ischaemia at a tertiary hospital in Kolkata from April 2020 to September 2021. Obstructive CAD was defined as >=70% stenosis in a major epicardial artery or >=50% stenosis in the left main coronary artery; the mean age was 36.0 +/- 3.55 years, 74.1% were men and obstructive CAD was present in 63.7%. Single vessel disease was the commonest CAD pattern, left anterior descending artery involvement was frequent, smoking was strongly associated with CAD and triglyceride levels were higher in CAD patients. Thus, data shows that early tobacco cessation and targeted assessment of atherogenic dyslipidaemia in young Indian adults. |
