Abstract

Malignant transformation of hydatidiform mole remains difficult to predict using conventional clinical parameters alone. A cross sectional analytical study of 50 women showed significantly higher p53 expression in cases with elevated β-hCG levels and subsequent malignant progression. ROC analysis showed excellent predictive performance (AUC=0.938), with 87.5% sensitivity and 71.3% specificity at a 42.5% stained-cell cut-off. All patients with malignant progression showed positive p53 staining (p=0.018). Thus, data shows p53 immunoexpression as a promising prognostic biomarker for early risk stratification and clinical management of molar pregnancy.
