Abstract |
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and Hepatitis C virus (HCV) are responsible for a significant proportion of liver diseases globally, presenting as both acute and chronic conditions. Therefore, it is of interest to assess the prevalence of HBV, HCV and their co-infections. Consequently, it is pertinent to evaluate whether screening for high-risk individuals is essential, given the notably elevated incidence of HBV and HCV infections within the hospital population. Collectively, HBV and HCV lead to chronic infections in over 500 million individuals and result in approximately one million fatalities. HCV, in particular, is a predominant factor in chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Thus, data shows the prevalence rates for HBV and HCV are 0.7% and 0.16%, respectively, with a higher incidence observed in males. |
