Abstract |
Perfusion index is a non-invasive pulse oximetry-derived marker of peripheral perfusion and may reflect nociceptive response during general anaesthesia. This observational study included 40 patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery, where perfusion index was recorded during port insertion and after fentanyl administration. Perfusion index decreased from 5.09 ± 1.00 before induction to 2.71 ± 0.59 at port insertion and then increased from 3.78 ± 0.60 at P1 to 5.23 ± 0.58 at P3 after fentanyl. Thus, perfusion index showed clear response to painful stimulus and analgesic supplementation so it may be used as a simple objective adjunct for intraoperative analgesia assessment. |
