Abstract

Psychological distress is common among medical students due to academic, emotional and social pressures. In a study of 124 undergraduates, 28.2% had high distress, with social dysfunction and poor emotional well-being as main contributors. Gender and residential status did not significantly affect overall distress, though males had slightly higher depression scores. Most psychological domains were strongly correlated, especially emotional well-being and total distress. Thus, data shows that regular mental health screening and institutional support are essential to promote student well-being.
