Abstract |
Endodontic failure due to persistent infection, missed canals, or inadequate obturation often necessitates retreatment, yet achieving complete removal of filling material remains a clinical challenge. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate the 78 extracted single-rooted mandibular premolars obturated with gutta-percha and AH Plus sealer, retreated using Hedstroem files, NeoEndo, Micro-Mega Retreat, HyFlex Remover systems and ultrasonic tips. Residual filling material at coronal, middle and apical thirds and retreatment time were assessed through stereomicroscopic digital analysis and analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey tests. Ultrasonic tips achieved the highest removal of filling material, followed by HyFlex Remover, both outperforming manual and earlier Ni-Ti systems with greater consistency and reliability. Thus, data shows that ultrasonic activation, when combined with contemporary Ni-Ti retreatment systems, significantly enhances the cleanliness of root canal walls and offers a more predictable protocol for managing failed endodontic treatments. |
