Abstract

Stress shielding remains a major biomechanical challenge in dental implantology, often leading to undesirable bone resorption and compromised implant longevity. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate the stress shielding effect on jaw bone using titanium, Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) and PEEK-coated titanium implants. Three-dimensional implant models were created in UG-NX software and finite element analysis was performed in ANSYS 15.0 under simulated masticatory forces of 50 N, 100 N, 150 N and 200 N corresponding to soft, medium, hard and very hard food consistencies. Results showed that the PEEK-coated titanium implant exhibited the highest von Mises stress (33.149 MPa) at the implant–bone interface, while the PEEK implant displayed the lowest (19.328 MPa), indicating reduced stress shielding. Thus, data shows PEEK’s potential as a bone-friendly alternative with improved load distribution compared to conventional titanium implants.
