Abstract

Pregnancy anemia poses serious maternal-fetal risks in developing nations, yet automated hematology analyzers versus peripheral smear accuracy for morphological subtyping remains insufficiently compared in prenatal care. Therefore, it is of interest to analyze the 120 antenatal cases, correlating hemoglobin levels and red cell indices from automated counters with peripheral smear morphological findings for anemia classification accuracy. Automated analyzers showed high correlation with smear results for basic parameters but showed discrepancies in morphological subtyping requiring microscopic confirmation. Peripheral smear examination proved essential for precise anemia subtype identification, complementing automated data for optimal clinical decision-making. Thus, data shows the combined automated-peripheral smear protocols are essential for accurate prenatal anemia diagnosis and targeted maternal-fetal management.
