Abstract

Gallbladder carcinoma is an aggressive malignancy that often presents late, with limited reliable prognostic biomarkers. This cross sectional observational study of 42 histopathologically confirmed primary gallbladder cancer specimens' evaluated p53 and Ki-67 expression by immunohistochemistry. Most cases were symptomatic, predominantly proliferative and commonly involved the fundus and body; p53 mutant expression was detected in the majority of tumors and was significantly associated with elevated CEA, tumor site and lymph node involvement. Thus, Ki-67 showed a significant correlation with p53 expression, suggesting that both markers reflect tumor proliferation and aggressive biological behavior.
