Abstract

The impact of periodontitis on lipid metabolism is debatable. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate and compare the lipid biomarkers in individuals with chronic periodontitis and healthy periodontium. Patients with chronic periodontitis exhibited significantly higher levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL and VLDL. In contrast, HDL levels were significantly lower in the periodontitis group. Thus, data shows a strong association between periodontal inflammation and dyslipidemia.
