Abstract

Dietary agents may impair both color stability and marginal integrity of resin-composite restorations. Eighty restored premolars were divided into tea, coffee, carbonated beverage, and tamarind groups (n = 20) and exposed for 15 days. Coffee caused the greatest discoloration (ΔE = 5.32 ± 0.17), while carbonated beverage and tamarind caused the greatest microleakage (p < 0.001). Discoloration and microleakage were not significantly correlated within any group (all p > 0.05). Thus, dietary agents therefore exert distinct chromogenic and interfacial effects that should be considered separately in restorative care.
