Abstract

Smoking and chewing habits worsen periodontal health. Therefore, it is of interest to assess and compare the periodontal status among smokers, tobacco chewers and non-users. A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted with 420 participants. Periodontal parameters were assessed. Data shows that both smoking and chewing tobacco significantly impairs periodontal health. Smokers exhibit deeper pockets and greater tissue destruction, while chewers show more plaque accumulation.
