Abstract

Tobacco use is a major risk factor for oral mucosal lesions and other oral diseases. Therefore, it is of interest to assess the tobacco use and associated oral mucosal lesions among 2725 dental outpatients in Chhattisgarh. Smokeless tobacco was the most common form and about 56% of participants reported tobacco use. Among tobacco users, 42.39% had oral mucosal lesions, with tobacco pouch keratosis and oral submucous fibrosis being the most frequent. Thus, data shows the burden of tobacco-related oral lesions supporting targeted tobacco cessation and early screening programs.
