Abstract

Combined periodontal-endodontic lesions remain difficult to manage because conventional irrigation may not adequately eliminate microorganisms from complex root canal and periodontal environments. Sixty patients were randomly assigned to receive adjunctive Er: YAG laser therapy, diode laser therapy, or conventional irrigation and periodontal parameters were evaluated at baseline and after 1, 3 and 6 months. Both laser groups showed significantly greater reductions in probing pocket depth, clinical attachment loss, bleeding on probing and plaque index than the conventional irrigation group, with the Er: YAG laser producing the greatest improvements at 6 months. Adjunctive laser therapy, particularly Er: YAG provided superior clinical outcomes compared with conventional irrigation for the non-surgical management of combined periodontal-endodontic lesions. Thus, data shows the incorporation of Er: YAG laser therapy as an effective adjunctive treatment to enhance long-term periodontal healing and clinical outcomes.
