Abstract |
Conventional restorative materials mainly replace lost tooth structure without actively responding to the oral environment. Smart restorative biomaterials introduce bioactive and stimulus-responsive properties to enable dynamic therapeutic functions. They can respond to pH, temperature, light and mechanical stress to deliver antimicrobial, remineralizing and regenerative effects. Emerging evidence suggests improved restoration longevity, reduced secondary caries and enhanced tissue healing with these materials. These advances may transform restorative dentistry toward precision-based, minimally invasive and biologically interactive clinical care. |
