General Information:

What Is B. Voc Degree?

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched skills development-based higher education scheme as part of college/university education, leading to a Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) Degree with multiple exits such as Diploma/Advanced Diploma under the NSQF.

B. Voc (Bachelor of Vocational Degree) courses are available in several fields for students who have completed their 12th standard or equivalent. This is largely targeted toward youth who want to enhance their employability opportunities to learn, earn and grow. The advantage of these courses is that as against common Degree courses like Engineering or B. Com or B.Sc., you have multiple exit points and continued exposure to the industry. The B. Voc. Programs are offered by universities and colleges alongside other undergraduate (UG) courses. However, unlike the traditional UG courses, the B. Voc curriculum is often mapped with job role descriptions as per National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF).

Objectives:

·       To provide a mix of skills relating to a profession and appropriate content of General Education. (Curriculum has 40% general education (theory) and 60% vocational training (practical) components).

·       To provide flexibility to the students (pre-defined entry and multiple exit points).

·       To integrate NSQF within the undergraduate level of higher education to enhance the graduates’ employability and meet industry requirements.

·       To ensure that the students have adequate knowledge and skills so that they are work ready at each exit point of the program.

Benefit to the Industry:

·       B. VOC course is a WORK-INTEGRATED PROGRAM.

·       To upgrade the skills of the organization’s existing workforce by giving them additional skills with a recognized degree/diploma, Hence improving vocational skills that they already possess – leading to higher retention, efficiency, and productivity of the workforce.

·       In this model, the industry will work as Skill Knowledge Provider (SKP) to drive practical training to candidates.

·       Skill Knowledge provider provides on-the-job training. Students learn the skill by engaging in OJT on the actual shop floor of the industry.

·       Students can be sponsored as part of the organization’s CSR initiative.

Levels of Awards:

The certification levels will lead to Diploma/Advanced Diploma/B. Voc. Degree in one or more vocational areas and will be offered under the aegis of the University.

Eligibility For Admission to B. VOC:

·      The eligibility condition for admission to the B. VOC. program shall be 10+2 or equivalent, in any stream.

·       No specific cut-off is mentioned, but you must have scored 50-55% marks in class 12.

·       If you have a diploma degree after Matric qualification, you will still be qualified to pursue a B. Voc course.

Curriculum:

The course curriculum has 40% general education (theory) and 60% vocational training (practical) components.

B. Voc Scope:

There is more scope for the B. Voc. course nowadays because the demand for skills and expertise is quite high in every field. Some of the future scopes of the B. Voc. course are as follows:

·       Scope for Higher studies: Candidates after the completion of the B Voc Courses can go for higher education such as M. Voc

M Voc: Master of Vocational Studies is a postgraduate course that is available for candidates who have completed their B Voc Course. The duration of the course is for a period of 2 years. Like B. Voc there are many specializations available for the M. Voc courses. M. Voc courses approved by the UGC are M. Voc. Banking Financial Service and Insurance, M. Voc. IT - ITeS, M. Voc. Tourism & Hospitality, etc.
